PONY National and LMBA have made recent modifications that will impact both our upcoming 2017 Winter Season and our 2018 Spring Season. Please review these rules so that you will be prepared.
AGE KEY (Starting Winter 2017)
The birthday cutoff has been moved from April 30th to August 31st. So, those kids that were born in May, June, July, or August may be moving UP an additional Division this year. Although PONY National will NOT be implementing this change until Spring 2018, LMBA has decided to implement this for Winter 2017 because the Winter season is designed to be a developmental season to prepare our kids for the upcoming Spring season. This was implemented by PONY National in order to ensure that All-Star players' ages better align with their age during the preceding regular season.
Please click below to see the new Age Key.
BAT CHANGES (Starting Spring 2018)
In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations (which includes PONY and Little League), PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standards (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other minus factor bats (-5,-7,-9, etc..), must be YBBCOR certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for regular season LMBA games and PONY All-Star tournaments. All bats without this stamp will be illegal and not be eligible to use during league play. The new YBBCOR bats bearing the USABat licensing mark are expected to be offered in retail stores in September.
These new bats are designed to mimic wood bats - which will lessen the "pop" factor and will increase safety for our players (by reducing potential injuries for the fielders from hard hit balls - especially come-backers to pitchers).

CONCUSSION & HEAD INJURIES
The “Youth Sports Concussion Protocols” became effective in California on January 1, 2017. The new protocols (contained in California Health & Safety Code Section 124235) mandate, amongst other requirements, that every coach shall be required to complete a concussion and head injury education course, either online or in person, BEFORE supervising any athlete in a youth sports organization. Furthermore, it requires all athletes over 17 years of age and parents of athletes under 17 years of age to read, sign, and return a concussion and head injury information sheet BEFORE the athlete can commence practice or competition.
Managers and Coaches should look under our Manager's Page tab (on the left side) for information pertaining to approved concussion and head injury education courses.
Parents will be required to review and sign a concussion and head injury information sheet (see Documents tab, above) to the team manager PRIOR to the first practice.
For more information, the entire Youth Sports Concussion Protocols can be reviewed at: Youth Sports Concussion Protocols.

Our LMBA family has recently suffered some losses that have deeply affected our League. We want to express our condolences to the Diomedes family and the Lozoya/Villanueva family, and let you know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of the LMBA Board and all of our members.
Dean Diomedes passed away in May 2017. He was a beloved husband, parent, and teacher...and an LMBA Coach.
Evann Lozoya (a member of LMBA's 2017 9U All-Star B Team) and his sister, Gianna, lost their mother, Nereida Villanueva (upper right corner), on July 1st.
If you would like to assist Evann and the Villanueva family, you can support them here:
And thank you to all of you have already given your support.
It is truly an honor and a privilege to be selected to one of LMBA's All-Star teams. The managers, coaches, and players sacrifice much of their summer putting in extra hours and almost every weekend in an effort to represent the City of La Mirada in the PONY-sanctioned tournaments and pre-All-Star tournaments.
This year, LMBA put forward 1 team in each of the 6U, 7U, 8U, 12U, and 14U Divisions, and 2 teams in the 9U, 10U, and 11U Divisions.
Thank you to all of the managers, coaches, players - and parents, who have and continue to represent our City and our League with dignity, sportsmanship, and honor.
The League also wants to congratulate our teams in 7U (Galindo), 9U A (Fierro), 10U A (Orr), 10U B (Denno), and 11U (Nichols) for advancing past District Tournaments into Regions, Super Regions, and/or the World Series.
The League is especially proud of our 10U A (Orr) and 10U B (Denno) teams for winning their District Championship and of our 9U (Fierro) team for being the 2017 West Zone Section Champions, Region Champions, and the Super-Region Champions. LM 9U continues on its road to the World Series on Thursday in the Zone Tournament.
Keep up the good work!!

LMBA wishes to congratulate our 10U Coyotes (managed by Coach Ben Orr) for an amazing 1st season in our Select Division. The 10U Coyotes won the Silver Division Championship at the end of the Select Season, then went on to win 2nd place in the Los Alamitos All-Star Invitational and the Division 2 Championship in the Xtreme Diamond Sports All-Star Summer Bash.
They continue as the La Mirada 10U All-Stars (A Team), and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming All-Star Tournaments.
LM 10U Coyotes (Orr) win the Division 2 Championship. After suffering initial losses to the Tomateros and East Long Beach Red, this pack of Coyotes howled back to beat both King's Baseball and Los Alamitos to bring home the gold.
LMBA wishes to congratulate our 9U Coyotes for not only defeating every team in its path to the Championship Game in the Irvine Memorial Day Tournament (a tournament that includes almost 200 teams - including 20 from Mexico), but for bringing home the gold.
Congratulations, 9U Coyotes. Thank you Coaches Fierro, Brooks, and Gandara - and all of the 9U players, for paving the way for our Select Division.

The LMBA Board wants to congratulate all of our 2017 Spring Season Champions:
We know that there were some bumps along the way, and the Board will continue making efforts to ensure that all of the LMBA participants have a fun and healthy environment in which to enjoy youth baseball.
We want to thank all of our LMBA players and their families - from Foal up to Pony - for making this a very successful season...and we hope to see everyone back in Spring 2018 (and Winter 2017).
Good luck to everyone who was selected to this year's All-Star teams. LMBA and the City are proud of you.
***Please check your emails and our website over the next few months for important information pertaining to potential changes to the age key impacting the 2018 season.***
The LMBA Board has adopted some new rules affecting "Official Scorekeepers" and "Intentional Walks".
As always, intentional walks are only allowed in the Mustang, Bronco, and Pony Divisions. However, LMBA has decided NOT to follow MLB Rules related to "no pitch" intentional walks. Effective immediately, intentional walks in LMBA require the pitcher to deliver 4 called balls.
Please see the attached document for the revised rules.
With the help of the LMBA Board, players, coaches, and families that participated in our Winter/Fall season, LMBA was able to donate approximately 20 Thanksgiving dinners (complete with turkey, stuffing, vegetables, and other fixin's) to needy families in our community.
Thank you to all of the people who donated to this worthy cause, the kids that helped deliver the dinners, and to Beatitudes of our Lord and Grace Evangelical Free Church for all of their assistance.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE.
